Digital land is real estate that exists in a digital environment called a multiverse. The most popular and most likely to become the standard in the future is Decentraland.

Decentraland is a 3D world where users can express themselves virtually. Think of this as the internet 2.0; businesses perform ecommerce on the internet and reach customers today digitally through the internet, tomorrow they will be doing the same in virtual reality in multiverses.

Very simply put, people today are paying large amounts of paper money for land in Decentraland.
